HerCampus Kicks Off College Fashion Week with U by Kotex
Boston may be a big college town, but its burgeoning fashion scene made it the prime location for HerCampus to kick off its College Fashion Week thanks to U by Kotex. Co-eds and HerCampus reporters from Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern University and more had the chance to upgrade their lives with insight on what spring trends to sport from the classroom, to the gym, to off-campus activities, and to the ballroom. As they arrived they were able to indulge their sweet tooth at the candy bar as well as snack on treats from Pinkberry, Chipotle, and Zico.
Backstage, some of the girls set to rock the runway had their hair pulled back into sleek ponytails for their gym look that would transition to twisted buns for the formal looks with help from Not Your Mother’s Smooth Moves Frizz Control Hair Cream and Rise & Shine Silk Smooth Shine Mist to flatiron the tail smooth. Others had their tresses curled into soft waves that would transform into textured braids for the weekend look with the brand's Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray and Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo. “It’s going to be really and really simple,” said head hairstylist Drew Noreen. “It’s something that college girls can do themselves.” As for makeup, fresh-faced and fancy free dominated all scenes, save for Formal where the girls wore black eyeliner and a satin pinky nude lip all from NYX Cosmetics.
HerCampus’s Windsor Hanger played hostess for the evening, setting the stage as local students took to the catwalk in looks that beat the sweatpants off of anything we wore in college! Chic separates and breezy dresses from H&M and Marshall’s and sporty schoolbags from Jansport were featured in the Class and Weekend scenes; colorful and comfortable Nike and Gap Fit pieces set the Gym scene, and BCBGMAXAZRIA and Nordstrom Rack lit up the walkway for the Formal scene. In between the sets, Boston University’s acapella group, the Dear Abbeys, serenaded the audience with revamped versions of Rihanna and Justin Timberlake hits, as well as the ever romantic Etta James’ classic, “At Last.” Northeatern’s dance troupe Rise shook it on stage to an urban beat, transforming the fashion show into a fête. Before the fashionistas-in-training went out into the night, they each picked up a stylish college survival kit filled with goodies from U by Kotex, Unreal, Svelte, NYX Cosmetics, and In the Raw, with coupons from Rusted Revolution, Confabulous Cases, West Elm, Müller, and more, making it a night these young ladies won’t forget for the rest of the semester!
