How to Get ‘Glunge’ Tresses
ICYDK, glunge is the marriage of glamour and grunge. It's the art of mastering a beautifully done-undone mane, à la Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Biel, and Sienna Miller.
The key—according to Sam Villa, Redken's Education Artistic Director—is in the fusion of textures created by thermal tools, like curling irons and flat irons. “Texturizing irons are great for changing the surface area of hair to add interest and create a foundation for other texture,” explains Villa. “Flat irons are meant for sleek finishes, but used in unconventional ways can add curl and wave. Playing with the direction of how hair is coiled around a curling iron, as well as the wrapping technique and angle, can yield endless versions of texture.”
