As soon as Nicolas Ghesquière announced his departure from Balenciaga, rumors began as to who would take his place. Among the short list were well known creatives including Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra, and the boys of Proenza Schouler, along with newer forces on the scene like Kostas Murkudis, Bouchra Jarrar, Mary Katrantzou, Christopher Kane, J.W. Anderson, and Thomas Tait.
According to Cathy Horyn at the New York Times, that list could very well be narrowed down to one - Alexander Wang. Though reports have not been confirmed, the official statement of his appointment to the position of lead creative at Balenciaga could be made as early as next week.
Now the subsequent question is - does this mean his eponymous line will move to Paris Fashion Week as opposed to New York?
UPDATE: Though Balenciaga and Wang have not made an official statement, WWD is reporting that the designer will in fact replace Ghesquière!
