Women’s Wear Daily reported that the designer is in talks to become the new creative director of the Russian perfumery chain, L’Etoile. According to Russian media reports, his first day would be May 22nd. He is reportedly to be tasked with building up the retailer’s private-label cosmetics line.
Though his scandal is still in the back of everyone’s minds, Galliano’s vision could easily make the shift from one department to the other. His fashion shows were not only sartorial spectaculars, but the beauty–created with makeup maestro Pat McGrath–brought the fantasy to life. Many of his theatrical looks, including the dragtastic dolly eye makeup from Dior’s Fall 2008 show, the royal powdered faces from Dior’s Fall 2004 couture collection, and even the Joan Crawford-inspired eyebrows from his eponymous Fall 2003 show, are all memorable.
While we wait for confirmation, it seems like the perfumery has jumped the gun, stating, “John is back!”
UPDATE: It's true! His spokesperson Liz Rosenberg confirmed with Women's Wear Daily that Galliano has been working as a consultant for L'Etoile. Details on his projects with Russia's biggest beauty retailer are expected to emerge in the coming days, she told the trade. We can't wait to see what he has in the works!
