The Lanvin designer talked to W about the cosmetic collection, which stemmed from his friendship with Lancôme president Youcef S. Nabi, who was determined to do business with him before anyone else tried. “I knew that eventually Alber would work with a cosmetics company, and so I told him, ‘If you do something with someone else, I will kill you,” she laughed about it in the glossy. “I really wasn’t kidding.”
What resulted was series of products that were all about the eyes including the brand's famous mascaras wrapped in Elbaz’s adorable drawings: cartoon eyes for the Définicils; pink polka dots for Hypnôse Drama; blue stars for Hypnôse Star; and hearts for Hypnôse Doll Lashes that are sure to become collectables. He’s also set to unleash a set of shadow boxes for the season. “When I think of cosmetics, I think of eyes,” he said. “For Lancôme, I wanted to do something funny and a little hand-made.”
Just don’t expect him to go the way of Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors, who are both rolling out their own beauty lines this Fall, as he isn’t usually interested in partnerships unless they make creative sense. “We’ll do this project and see how it works,” Elbaz said.
Is it possible to change his mind about the beauty biz? We’ll have to wait and see after the collection hits shelves on June 15th!
Update: Yay! We've finally got a peek at the products. Can June hurry up?
