Jenny McCarthy Snags a Seat at ‘The View’
All those late nights at VH1 have paid off: Jenny McCarthy is officially joining The View. Last week, Variety reported that the personality, who's already captivated audiences with 17 appearances on the show, was in talks to take over Joy Behar’s seat following her departure this fall. Still, it took veteran journalist and co-host Barbara Walters to make it stick.
“Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous,” Walters said during today's broadcast. “She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for The View.”
That turn will pack a hefty punch considering McCarthy's comedic timing, Playboy past, and reputation to say what's really on her mind, making her a strong addition to the opinionated bunch. Though she kept her tweeted response demure with a “Grateful!” proclamation, the best-selling author released an official statement true to her uncanny form.
“I'm beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table,” said McCarthy, who will co-host alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd for the series’ 17th season. “I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off.”
Fans can tune in to McCarthy's first run as an official co-host starting on September 9. Still, you'll need to have your The View mock draft ready; with Elisabeth Hasslebeck gone to join Fox and Friends, Behar out to focus on her namesake Current TV show, plus Walters’ 2014 retirement, there are still a few spots to fill… just hope they keep their seats warm!
