Having just starred as the cover girl of Elle magazine's January issue, Joan Smalls is making fashion headlines again this month as the latest face of Fendi. The spring 2014 campaign, shot by Karl Lagerfeld, finds its focus with a geometric aesthetic and balanced style. Smalls and model Nadja Bender rock straight locks and contoured cheekbones in the alluring, angularly posed photographs. Each shot displays a blurred, mirrored image of the models replicated in the watery background.
The campaign's stylistic approach fits with the fundamental design of the collection, which hones in on shape and structure, but in a soft, feminine way. The pieces from the collection reiterate this: color-blocked and multi-dimensional lucite heels, rectangular satchels and totes (some even ironically accessorized with Fendi's famous Buggies), and minimalistic silhouettes featuring graphics, patterns, and prints in playful colors like coral and pink sorbet.
