The man behind Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane, will host the 85th Annual Academy Awards. According to Entertainment Weekly, today’s announcement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences came as a shock to many in the industry. While MacFarlene’s brand of comedy has dominated the small screen, his hosting resume is a bit short with only a few Comedy Central Roasts to his credit. But many believe that his summer hit Ted, which grossed over $420 million worldwide, was his way onto the shortlist and his recent hosting gig on Saturday Night Live may have put him over the edge. He wasn't expecting the news. “It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars,” he said in a statement. “My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.” Whatever you feelings on his next hosting gig, fans of his work will be sure to tune in to watch his antics, and maybe a few animated cameos, on Hollywood’s biggest night!
