Now that Prince William has finally put a ring on longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton's finger, the race is on to see who will design her gown for the wedding of the century. Middleton is fast becoming a style icon in her own right and we predict her gown will be both fashion forward and elegant; think traditional with a twist. But who will do the honors?
While elite American brides tend to favor designers like Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, and Monique Lhuillier, we suspect Middleton will embrace a more European aesthetic.
Choosing a British designer like Vivienne Westwood, Alice Temperley, and Matthew Williamson would garner national pride, while Lanvin could provide just the right understated elegance Middleton seems to favor. Perhaps she could benefit from the Hollywood glamour of Marchesa; plus British transplant Georgina Chapman's knows a thing or two about English elegance. Should she opt for the classics, Karl Lagerfeld can create a chic conservative confection. If an avant-garde gown is more her thing, nobody does couture bridal quite like John Galliano.
For now, we'll just have to wait for the future princess to head down the aisle.
