In another example of a grounds-up social media movement leading modern trends, this story starts with vine. Made by Keelay from KeelayJams, a clip of the the short vid guru stapling two slices of pepperoni to an oversized poster board of Kate Moss went viral as soon as the public caught wind of his unorthodox artistry mere months ago. In the video, Keelay, whose real name is Kyle Matthew F. Williams, is wearing a homemade jacket with the phrase "Kate Moss and Some Pizza Slices" across the back, acting as the title of his vine.
Drama quickly erupted, though, when Instagram cool kids, Reformation, posted Keeleyjam's cheeky design onto their own page, causing annoyance among fans of the original vine. Rather than feeding into the riff, though, Keelay proposed that the two brands team up with a Reformation 'Make It Right' collection, featuring an exclusive edition of a sweatshirt boasting the now famous phrase. Reformation immediately jumped on the opportunity, stating, "Sometimes in the midst all the image searching and inspiration tears, you forget to double-check things. You just get caught in the idea. We felt terrible that someone would feel "ripped off" by us. Kyle reached out to us in such an awesome way, which led to one of our favorite collaborations. Nobody’s perfect, but we always try to make it right."
With cheeky, catchy, and unconventional graphics blowing up on the fashion front this past year, we can see this piece being a hit. Only 132 sweatshirts, available in grey, pink, navy, turquoise, and red, have been made, so these snarky tops, available here, won't be around for long. Nylon editor Tammy Levine has already grabbed hers in the bubblegum shade, posting the pullover on the magazine's Instagram this afternoon as their "Pick of the Day." Are you up for the edgy outerwear, or is this one too strange even for the most contemporary of closets?
