Listen: Frank Ocean Muses about an Imaginary Lover on ‘Memrise’
Dear Frank Ocean, we’ve been thinkin bout you—ever since you all-but disappeared following the Grammy Award-winning success of channel ORANGE. Two years have passed, and though we heard your familiar baritone on “Oceans” with Jay Z, “New Slaves” with Kanye West, and “Superpower” with Beyoncé, you left us longing for new music. Finally, you’ve answered our call.
In between shifts at the “Pyramid,” Ocean released a 1-minute, 57-second track entitled “Memrise.” The rough cut muses about an imaginary lover who 1) isn’t dipped in gold, 2) isn’t plastic, and 3) is so thick, so thick. No word on whether the could-be interlude will appear on Ocean’s sophomore album, but until that comes, this will have to do. Brood on.
