Nail art is all the rage right now, from simple touches like chevron stripes to more in depth designs like half moon designs. While heading to the nail salon on a weekly basis to dress up your fingers and toes can be fun and exciting, it certainly takes a toll on your wallet. Why not get a little crafty at home? I'm hardly a master of all things manicures, but I'm here to prove that nail art is far from impossible. You just have to manage your expectations. Step up your manicure game this spring with a few easy additions to your regular Sunday night polish sessions. For my first foray into the world of nail art, I decided to stick with a popular fashion trend – polka dots. Keep reading for my how to!
Step 1 – Choose your base coat and polka dot colors. I opted for L'Oreal's Members Only to dominate my nails because I'm the epitome of a pink girl, but I feel like CoverGirl's Peaches & Cream could have been a good option as well.
Step 2 – Coat your nails per usual in your base coat of choice. Allow to dry.
Step 3 – Pick your first polka dot color. Putting aside the brush, dip a toothpick into the nail polish and use it to gently dot on the polish until you have achieved the perfect sized polka dots. You can go for a variety of sizes, or attempt to keep them all the same on each nail. Dot each finger with the first color and allow to dry.
Step 4 – Continue on with a new toothpick and new color. I gradually added dots as the slant moved in towards the opposite edge of my finger.
Step 5 – Finish up with a top coat and then take pictures to show off your newfound nail art skills on Instagram during #ManiMonday!
