Mary J. Blige is such an inspiration. As an in-demand award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, actress, and philanthropist, one would obviously consider her professional plate quite full. Clearly not Blige, as she's found a way to make room on her resume for one more métier: perfumer.
Last weekend the shy songbird visited HSN studios in St. Petersburg, FL to debut her first fragrance, My Life, named after her triple-platinum album My Life released in 1994. Says Blige in an exclusive interview with Glam.com, "The connection between my second album and this fragrance, is that the connection I have with my fans... I love my fans, and I love women, and they love me. We made history together, and it was the beginning of our bond—it was the beginning of us speaking and talking to each other through My Life album."
Sidenote: When it comes to fragrances, I'm a gardenia girl—always have been, always will be. Imagine my surprise when I learned that Blige's first scent would heavily feature this note! Jasmine, tuberose, lily, cashmere woods, and apricot blossom round out this heady offering.
Currently Blige's scent has sold a whopping 60,000 bottles of her eau de parfum, grossing roughly 2.7 million dollars in sales, and $60,000 for her charity FFAWN, as $1 of every bottle sold will be donated to benefit the betterment of women.
"I am thrilled with the success of My Life, the experience on HSN with Carol's Daughter and the overwhelming donations to FFAWN," said nine-time Grammy Award winner Mary J. Blige. "I can't wait to share another touch of my heart. Thank you to all my fans - new and old – for being there for me."
