The 2,534th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has Matthew McConaughey’s name all over it.
The Academy Award-winning star was joined by his wife Camila Alves and three children—all in Dolce & Gabbana—Monday morning to cement his addition to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s official A-list lane. “Matthew McConaughey is one of Hollywood’s most popular leading men,” Walk of Fame ceremonies producer Ana Martinez said in a statement. “The community of Hollywood is proud to place his star on our famed historic Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
Despite his Dazed and Confused debut in 1993 and debatable roles in rom-coms like Failure to Launch, the 45-year-old Texan started to be taken seriously in 2011’s Bernie, before going on to nab an Oscar, Critics’ Choice, Golden Globe, Gotham, and SAG Award for his dynamic transformation in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club. When he took to the mic on Monday—with Interstellar co-stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Mackenzie Foy, and director Christopher Nolan on hand—McConaughey threw in an ode to his hometown and the dreams he still has in mind.
“I am from Texas,” he said. “We have a home in Texas, but this business and this industry, I feel like it’s a privilege every single day that I get to get up on a Monday morning—I have a career that I look forward to Monday morning, to going to work. That I’m proud to be able to say. He added “this industry has given me... a chance to live out some dreams I didn’t even know I had, dreams I’m still finding along the way, and what other business can you go live them out, but in this storytelling business?”
That man and his rhetoric—gotta love it!
