Met Gala 2014 Trend: Bare Midriff
What do Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, Emma Stone, Gabrielle Union, Anne Hathaway and Anna Kendrick all have in common? Yep, you guessed it: killer abs. And what better way than to show them off by wearing this season’s biggest trend? There is none, and these ladies proved at Monday night’s Met Gala that there’s no venue too fancy for a sliver of bare midriff. Crop tops popped up in all varieties on the fashion industry’s most celebrated red carpet, and the ladies that sported them certainly deserve a round of applause.
Stella McCartney dressed Delevingne in a tuxedo-inspired getup that stayed true to her rebellious attitude, and Rihanna in an elegant white skirt and matching (backless) crop top. Stone sported two shades of pink by Thakoon, while Hathaway went with head-to-toe red by Calvin Klein. Union wore an embellished Prada two-piece and Kendrick made her red carpet appearance on the arm of Gilles Mendel wearing, obviously, a skin-baring J. Mendel gown. No matter which cropped look you prefer, there’s no denying it, ladies: skin is definitely in.
