Music Musings: Justin Timberlake Headed for Platinum First-Week Sales with ’20/20 Experience’
Don't call it a comeback. Justin Timberlake's return to the studio with The 20/20 Experience is a takeover, trending toward a million copies sold in its first week. Thanks to stellar promotion—number one single, weeklong stint on late-night TV, tour announcement, and documentary, to start—and raving critical reviews, the initial prediction that JT would hit the 750,000 mark has now been trumped with bets that he'll move more than 950,000 in week one sales. If so, he'll join an elite rank of artists including Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and 50 Cent, who've topped 850,000 albums sold during their first weeks out since Soundscan began tracking in 1991.
While the verdict won't officially be out until this Wednesday, March 25th, we're betting on a cool million for Mr. Timberlake, and searching for a bottle of his 901 Tequila to celebrate. While you still get into the greatness that is Timberlake's third album and refresh your LiveNation app for tickets to his summer tour with Jay-Z, we thought we'd bring “Sexy Back” and beyond with some of our favorite JT tunes since he shed his boy band pastin 2002.
