Nicki Minaj is no stranger to theatrics and drama. Born Onika Tanay Maraj in Trinidad but raised in Queens, New York, the Pink Friday rapper attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts where she told her peers that she would, wait for it, be the next Halle Berry.
“By the time I’m 19, I’m going to be Halle Berry status,” she recounts in the August issue of Marie Claire magazine. Minaj was devastated when that didn’t come to fruition but she quickly turned her attention to music where she would upload songs to MySpace (which led to her big break). Now the Marie Claire cover girl has sold millions of albums worldwide, appeared on the last season of American Idol as a judge, released clothing and nail polish collections ... but still hasn’t forgot about her first love—acting.
In fact, Minaj was just offered her first major on-screen acting role: a larger-than-life assistant to lawyer Cameron Diaz in Nick Cassavetes comedy, The Other Woman. Could this be the precursor for a career-switcheroo?
“One day, when I start getting a couple gray hairs, maybe it will only be acting,” Minaj said in the issue on newsstands July 16th. “I just never know.”
