This just in: Nicola Formichetti is now leading the brave army that is Diesel. He, according to a press release, was just named commander-in-chief! "I finally met someone somebody as crazy as I am," said Renzo Ross of Formichetti's appointment as creative director, Diesel's founder. "Nicola shares my vision and I find it incredibly inspiring to work with him: two creative planets are colliding to generate fresh, mad, insane ideas. With his help, I want to break more rules and bring the real Diesel to a new generation."
We had a feeling that Formichetti would be leaving Thierry Mugler for Diesel.Women's Wear Daily reported that the shared vision dates back to September 2011 when Ross walked into a Mugler pop-up shop in TriBeCa in New York. "The presentation and and every item in the store were just unbelievable," Ross told WWD. "I spent four hours going through that store."
Formichetti is on a bit of a hiatus as Lady Gaga's stylist and fashion director at Vogue Hommes Japan, and though he's done some styling for Kim Kardashian (Elle magazine, most recently), he's excited about the new ad concepts set to debut in September but don't expect to see them all over the blogosphere. "Editors and bloggers should be writing about things that excite them," said Formichetii--he isn't a fan of brands paying for exposure. Don't worry, though, "We've got a lot of crazy ideas," he told WWD, "but we're not ready to share them. Yet."
