#NYFW Get the Look: Razor Sharp Sovereigns at Bibhu Mohapatra Fall 2012

Inspired by the early 20th century Chinese opera, The White Haired Girl, Bibhu Mohapatra’s Fall 2012 collection combined the spirit of colonial China with modern silhouettes, regal textures, and geometric embellishments. “The collection revolves around the protagonist’s strength, passion, and courage for love in imperial China,” said Mohapatra.

L’Oreal Professionnel Master Session Artist, Amit Abraham received the task of crafting a hairstyle that was regal enough for the modern woman. “When you look at his clothes, you see really graphic, strong lines, and the colors really pop,” he said. “We wanted something that was smooth, beautiful, not too much, but also had the drama of the opera. We went with a really long ponytail with a strong clean graphic line in the back and kept the part really straight in the center to really add the drama to it and to keep it really clean.”

To create a look worthy of royalty, Abraham began prepping the hair with L’Oreal Professionnel Mythic Oil before flat ironing the hair. He made a sharp center part before sectioning the front and pulling the back into a low ponytail, using the Professionnel Infinium 4 hairspray for extra hold. He then pulled the front section back, wrapping the ends around the elastic and pinned them in place before adding a touch of shine with the Professionnel Perfect Shimmer. He then flat ironed the tail until it was stick straight and razor cut the ends for a blunt, even edge and secured the look with blast of Professionnel Infinium 3. This sharp style can easily go with almost anything, making you look like royalty all day or all night.
