Oscars 2014: Get Cate Blanchett’s Classic Beauty

Publish date:

Cate Blanchett nabbed Oscar gold last night in a shimmering champagne Armani gown, but also schooled the Academy on female character-driven films – all while channeling Hollywood’s golden age. The stage and screen star looked to Robert Vetica and Jeanine Lobell to primp her for the trip to the podium.

Vetica first prepped Blanchett’s strands with a golf ball-sized amount of Vidal Sassoon’s Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse before creating a low side part. He blow-dried the tresses with the HairArt Tourmaline Dryer using his signature boar bristle brush to roll the hair away from the face, adding bounce. Vetica added a bit more of the mousse as he went along to ensure protection against the humidity that accompanied the torrential rains in L.A. Once the shape of the bangs was set, he clipped them in place as he finished the rest of her hair. He then spritzed two-inch sections of hair to curl the mid-lengths and ends with a ¾-inch iron. Once cooled Vetica gently backcombed the curls to soften the looks and add lift before layering the Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray and the Pro Series Extra Firm Hold Hairspray. He polished off the look by pinning the hair close to the head, using fine sections of hair to cover the pin.

Lobell kept things timeless with a little pampering care of SK-II’s Facial Treatment Essence to moisturize and prime the skin before a little foundation. She added an inner glow to Blanchett’s cheek with the Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush in Beige. The eyes followed the nude suit by using the taupe shade of the Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Quad in Effeto Nudo all over the lid, feathering the deeper taupe on the lid and into the crease. She mixed the light brown and deeper taupe to add emphasis to the outer crease and center. The darkest brown was dampened to line the lashes, which were curled with a few swipes of the Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof Custom Volume Mascara. After brushing up the brows, Lobell finished the look with a swipe of the Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy Lipstick in #103.
