THE PLACE: JW Marriott Essex House, New York

THE DEETS: In the elegant Essex House ballroom, charitable women of New York gathered to hear from the UJA-Federation’s Women of Influence honorees: Elana Drell-Szyfer, chief executive officer of AHAVA North America, Bonnie Fuller, founding president and editor-in-chief,, Leandra Medine, author and founder, The Man Repeller, and Charlotte Ronson, fashion designer. In a panel led by Donny Deutsch and emceed by Bianna Golodryga, Good Morning America weekend co-anchor and ABC News Business correspondent, the evening’s honored guests discussed their shared experiences as successful business women.

In addressing the audience, Fuller and Drell-Szyfer, both stressed that women need to be more forceful in taking control of their careers and use courage in asking for what they feel is their due. The two younger panelists, Medine and Ronson, were inspirational in the way they’ve built careers outside the typical confines of corporate America. With Mother’s Day around the corner, they both cited their mothers as driving forces in their lives. As Medine smartly pointed out “Listen to your mom, she always has the best intentions for you.”

Medine, the woman behind the uber successful blog, had advice for our Glam bloggers, she offered this: “Come up with a niche idea and cultivate it and let it speak for itself and then move forward. If you feel like you have this sort of sense of fashion and you want to push for it, really push for it.”
