Personal Style 101: Summer Wedding Attire

If you are in your 20s or 30s, chances are your summer calendar is filled with weddings–lovely for the happy couple, stressful for you the wedding attendee. Coming up with outfit after outfit that is appropriate enough for these special occasions can be a daunting (and expensive) task. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be.

Know Your Dress Code

Summer weddings by nature seem to be more casual. With your day weddings, beach weddings, and destination weddings, understanding the dress code can seem like rocket science. Just know this, wedding attire never equals casual attire. A safe outfit would be a fancy maxi dress paired with heels, a clutch, and stunning jewelry.

Don’t Go Broke

Shopping for a new outfit can become costly rather quickly. I know you want to look nice but be honest with yourself, are you ever going to wear this outfit again? If the answer is probably not, don’t be afraid to shop at places like Zara and H&M to save a few bucks.

Summer Wedding Dos

Do wear pastels, floral prints, and other toned down colors. Look for modest silhouettes like tea length, maxi, or hemlines that hit an inch above the knee. For your feet; heeled sandals and dressy wedges are a safe bet.

Summer Wedding Don’ts

Avoid dresses that are too short, low cut, or anything that would raise an eyebrow (or anything else for that matter). Don’t wear flip-flops, I don’t care how cute they are and never ever wear denim to a wedding.
