Confirmed: Peter Copping will be taking the reigns at Oscar de la Renta!
The designer, who left Nina Ricci at the beginning of October, will officially start his role on November 3 and show his first collection during New York Fashion Week in February 2015. He’ll be responsible for all product categories, including ready-to-wear, accessories, bridal, and home decor. Mr. de la Renta himself seems to be pleased with the transfer of power: “Our industry has not always done the best job when it comes to changes in design leadership. My hope is that, in leading this selection and actively participating in the transition, I can ensure the right design future for our company and brand.”
Before Nina Ricci, Copping spent 12 years working with Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton and shares de la Renta’s feminine sensibility. He has a romantic flair to his designs that make him the logical successor to de la Renta. “We have spent a considerable time determining how best to bring a new and important creative voice into our company,” said Alex Bolen, the chief executive officer of Oscar de la Renta. “Peter will bring a fresh perspective to our brand, continuing the evolution of our business.”
