Raf Simons Makes His Christian Dior Haute Couture Debut
Christian Dior is headed to new heights. Raf Simons delivered a stellar Haute Couture collection for the venerable house Monday afternoon in Paris. Much to the relief of the fashion world, who feared the brand's fate after the unceremonious departure of John Galliano, it's clear the future of Dior is in good hands. Simons honored the brand's past, while still propelling it forward, with 54 masterfully designed looks that each referenced an iconic Dior moment. There were cigarette pants and tuxedo suits, jackets, and ballgowns. Each look delighted the crowd, which included fellow greats Alber Elbez, Pierre Cardin, Azzedine Alaïa, Marc Jacobs, Donatella Versace, Riccardo Tisci and Diane von Furstenberg.
The set, which was comprised of millions of fresh flowers distributed amongst four salons, felt exceptionally aporpos. The House of Dior is flourishing and we are eager to see what blossoms from Simons' imagination.
