Bye, bye, bye Backstreet Boys! Yes, your 20-year return gave us a dose of needed nostalgia, but this reported reunion is one for the record books. According to the New York Post, Justin Timberlake's “special performance” at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards will be marked with a notable NSync reunion.
Timberlake, who will receive the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, may be joined by Chris Kirkpatrick, J.C. Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass on the Barclay's stage for their first performance since the 2003 Grammy Awards. While Lady Gaga's opening number, Robin Thicke's summer smash, and Kanye West's enthralling “BLKKK SKKKN HEAD” will enamor the crowd, renditions of NSync's greatest hits will ultimately steal the show. Let's face it: Few can compete with the sovereign ’90s boy band. We're talking flashbacks of a bleach-blonde JT, Kirkpatrick's signature dreads, and five of our dreamiest heartthrobs doing synchronized movements in smedium (yes, smedium) tees. [Insert “I Want You Back” choreo here].
The “Suit and Tie” soloist could also walk away as the evening's Moon Man of the hour; he's tied with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for the most nominations with a total of six, including Video of the Year (against Thicke, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift).
Tune in to the Video Music Awards this Sunday, August 25 at 9:00 p.m. on MTV to live out an NSync-induced teenage dream.
