Spring is almost here and it’s time to get our gams in gear! Gillette Venus & Olay have come together to create a razor with two enriched moisture bars that deliver a one-two punch of smooth and sexy skin just in time for the warm weather. Gillette recently put the razor to the test by sponsoring the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2012 issue with the help of featured model Chrissy Teigen. Glam got the chance to chat with the swimwear specialist to find out what it’s like to pose for an iconic issue, her seasonal skincare regimen, and her must have beauty items.
How did you get involved with Venus and Olay?
It was awesome because [Venus] became the official razor of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. I don’t know if maybe I showed it, but I’m very blunt and brutally honest when it comes to thing that I like, and I was always talking about shaving on Twitter. They were looking for someone, and I was lucky to chosen. I’m so happy to be working with a brand I truly love. My worst nightmare is that people think I’m tweeting about it just to get paid. I hate that! I see right through when celebrities do it, and so it’s really important to me that I actually love the product. And I really do!
What was it like shooting the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue?
It’s hard for me to remember them because the shoots were months and months ago. It’s always really exciting, but the problem is it’s different for every location. Our photographer [Walter Iooss Jr.] has shot Victoria’s Secret and so much fashion. I was a little nervous going in because it was like “Oh, he does a lot of fashion!” And I wondered if maybe I’m not pretty enough for him because the fashion girls are very thin, and you get kind of insecure. But oh my God, he made me feel so comfortable and that changes everything! When you’re comfortable with a photographer, everyone is working as a team. It’s the teamwork on this shoot - there’s no ulterior motive with it, it’s just getting a beautiful shot for the magazine. It was great to work on it.
How did you feel the first time you used the razor?
It first came to me in this blank box. It didn’t have any of the packaging around it. So I was one of the first to use it, and all I wanted to do was show it off. It’s beautiful. It’s a gorgeous looking razor. Honestly, it looks like a goddess razor; it’s gold, sparkly, it’s so feminine, and it actually works, which is awesome! It was really cool to use it for the first time. I remember my agent called and told them, “She’s out.” She had given me six of them and I was out within a few weeks – I used them so much. I really, really love them. You know how the razor comes with the little hooks? I have them hanging all over the place. I always switch them out because I hate to waste the gel bars.
How do you prep your skin for spring?
Oh my goodness, it’s always so hard! I grew up in California and in Washington State. I’ve never really had that season of crazy, bitter cold and being gray for an entire three-month session. Skin is really important to me, and a thing about living in New York is dealing with the humidity in the summer and spring. It’s all the changes your skin goes through with that and how congested your skin gets. I’m gray in the winter; if I don’t have a spray tan, I’m literally gray. I like to do great facials, especially when going from summer to winter. That’s the hard part; my skin gets terrible after that. I’m a big, huge exfoliator. I believe in skin buffing, I feel funny without it. For the most part I try to avoid a New York summer to winter. I always try to get out during those months. But right now it’s not really winter here. I love that it’s only 40 degrees out and girls are like, “Shorts!”
What are three beauty items you always keep in your bag?
Aquaphor – I’ve got a big tube of it and I put it on everywhere. I never noticed that my elbows were ashy and dry until someone pointed it out. So I put it on my lips; I put it on my eyebrows to keep them in place, elbows, I mean everything. Absolutely use under eye concealer; I love a good thick formula. I don’t like to wear any makeup, but I feel comfortable with that. I always have deodorant. Always. I never know how long my day is going to be. I never know what I’m going to need. I carry around my entire makeup bag, which is a foot by a foot; it’s major! I never know where I’m going to end up or what I’m going to end up doing. “Oh I have to go to a dinner all of a sudden!”And then I have to go home and it’s all the way in the Village and then I have to crawl just to go back and forth. I always try to keep everything with me so I’m fully prepared.
The Gillette Venus & Olay Razor will be available March 15th at major retailer nationwide, but is available for presale now on the Gillette Venus Facebook Page.
