Style Scoop: Vince Camuto Passes Away, Andre Leon Talley’s ODLR Exhibit, Rihanna Beats Topshop


Vince Camuto passed away Wednesday at age 78 at his home in Greenwich, Conn. after a battle with cancer. Camuto was one of the founders of the Nine West footwear line, along with his former business partner, Jerome Fisher. His empire consisted of a number of brands across many categories under the Camuto Group. He told WWD in 2014, “Our motto is, ‘You can do whatever you want in this company and you can grow very quickly.’” [Women’s Wear Daily]

Andre Leon Talley will pay homage to legendary designer Oscar de la Renta in an exhibition at the SCAD Museum of Art. The exhibit will include 70 de la Renta ensembles, including designs he made for Nicole Kidman, Taylor Swift, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, and Sarah Jessica Parker. For Talley, the project was “a work of joy and wonderful pleasure because Oscar was a very close friend of mine and also a mentor.” The exhibit opens February 5. [Women’s Wear Daily]

Remember when Topshop sold a T-shirt with Rihanna’s picture on it and she took them to court? Well, Britain’s Court of Appeal confirmed an earlier decision that the retailer did, in fact, infringe on the singer's rights by selling a T-shirt with her photo on it. The reasoning was that that “the item was damaging to Rihanna’s ‘goodwill’ and represented a loss of control over her reputation in the ‘fashion sphere.’” [Women’s Wear Daily]
