Style Scoop: Yves Saint Laurent Didn’t Agree with Fashion, Watch Oscar de la Renta, Juicy Couture x Steve Madden


When Yves Saint Laurent retired from the fashion industry in 2002, several things were at play. The first being that he’d had enough, but the second, and perhaps, most important was that, “he didn’t agree with [the fashion industry],” Alexandra Boulat, French photography Pierre Boulat (who worked closely with Saint Laurent) said. “So he didn’t want to go in this trade; he wanted to get out of the industry, and I encouraged him because he’d done it his whole life.” [The Cut]

Oscar de la Renta is coming to wrist near you! ODLR is teaming up with Shinola on a watch named The Lattice. “Inspired by de la Renta’s jewelry collection, the watches feature a lattice design made of sapphire crystal and mother of pearl, and they all come in at the luxury price point: One with 68 diamonds and an alligator strip is $2,700.” Only 1,000 watches were created and will retail at Neiman Marcus, Oscar de la Renta and Shinola stores and online. Juicy Couture is stepping into footwear with Steve Madden Ltd. “We had multiple choices, but Steven Madden knows how to make fun shoes that are very on trend,” said Jamie Salter, chairman and CEO of Authentic Brands Group (they own Juicy’s intellectual property). “They are not followers, but leaders in footwear. Juicy is the leader in fun product and Steve Madden knows how to hit that down the freeway.” We can expect a higher price line retailing for $80 to $200 and a lower priced line will come later, that will be sold in department stores. Red carpet fashion is starting to bore Anna Wintour. “The red carpet in the United States, has become too much of a business,” the editor told Suzy Menkes at Central Saint Martins. “It’s a fact that celebrities are paid to wear everything, and to me sometimes that comes across as very manufactured and not individual. I was recently at the Tony Awards in New York, and, God, they need your help. Let me tell you, it was a disaster… [Celebrities] have all of these teams of people telling them what to do, what to wear, how to do their hair, makeup. And they’re so scared of being criticized, whereas, you know what’s wrong with looking different? How many mermaid fishtail strapless sequin [gowns] can we see?” [The Cut]

The bright print on the pair of lace-up sneaks was pulled directly from the Italian fashion label’s Fall 2014 collection.
