Girl power reigned supreme Friday night at the fifth annual Women in Film Pre-Oscar celebration. This year’s fete took place at Cecconi’s West Hollywood where the Perrier-Jouët flowed. Hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow and Cathy Schulman, president of Women In Film, the event welcomed the 2012 female Oscar nominees, including The Help’sViola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain.
Paltrow, who wore a Boy.by Band of Outsiders Tuxedo Inspired Jumpsuit, raised her glass to the girls. “We're smarter than men and we’re better than men,” she said. And based on her own experience, the Academy Award winning actress also advised the women to “try to avoid those hangovers on Sunday.”
Spencer, for her part, was taking it all in stride. “I’m just enjoying the ride,” she said. The Best Supporting Actress nominee also shared some of her sartorial secrets. “Tadashi Shoji has been killing it for me,” said Spencer, who also made sure to point out her sensible footwear. “These shoes are Nine West because you got to keep it real.”
Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens The Descendants' Shailene Woodley, Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe, Allison Janney, Jennifer Morrison, Jennifer Beals, Jena Malone, Ari Graynor, Ziyi Zhang and Blythe Danner were also in attendance. Sibide, who hit the awards circuit when she was nominated for Precious, tries to avoid most of the shows and parties. “I call LA ‘the office’,” she said. “I only come out for a day or two when I have to and then I head back to NY.” Sibide is currently filming the third season of The Big C in CT. “
And regardless of what happened Sunday night, no one left this party empty handed. Guests were treated to a mini bottle of bubbly, a free ride at Soul Cycle, and several products from M.A.C. Cosmetics, which were handpicked by Amanda Knight, a 2012 Oscar nominated makeup artist for Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2.
