This is the Remix: Beyonce Recruits Nicki Minaj for a Flawless Reboot

If the Carters’ official statement regarding a certain May 5 elevator situation didn’t curb your curiosity, then this should.

Following in the footsteps of her surprise December 2013 albumBeyoncéreleased a remix to the disc’s most brandish front, “Flawless,” sans traditional promo. Bey recruited Nicki Minaj for the track, resulting in a double dose of braggadocio from two of music’s leading ladies. Amid divorce rumors from Jay Z, Beyoncé took the reboot as an opportunity to slam speculation about her marital status and shut us up about that May 5 melee, once and for all.

“Of course sometimes s___ goes down when it’s a billion dollars on an elevator,” Bey rapped before breaking into the songs ubiquitous “I woke up like this” mantra. Talk about a *drops mic* moment.

The line, which Mrs. Carter repeated twice, is quite the 180 from what her clan said back in May. “Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred,” the Knowles-Carters said in their first public acknowledgment of the elevator scuffle between Jay Z and Solange. “They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”

The “Flawless” remix could explain why Nicki Minajpushed back the release of her own new single, “Anaconda” from last Monday to today. By coupling the sensationalism of her first Beyoncé collaboration with the success of “Bang Bang” with Jessie J. and Ariana Grande, Miss Minaj may finally nab a number one single on the Billboard Hot 100. Talk about the ultimate promo move.
