Trend to Try: Fabulous Flutter Hems

Fishtail fringe, flutter edging, trumpet hem–call the style what you please but know that it should be making its way into your wardrobe this season. This trending silhouette isn't exactly innovative as calf grazing sheaths and skirts were a common appearance on sharply styled women from the '30s and '40s and has long been a leading design in bridal wear. Nonetheless, it's made a modern resurgence on recent runways and red-carpets, making this timeless cut a trend to try for day-to-day. A trumpet dress boasts extra vintage appeal with a fitted bodice and waist and mid-length hem. However, shorter and looser sheaths of the same look are also in style. If you opt for a skirt with the fluttery finish, make sure to keep the volume reserved for the bottom and choose a top that is fitted. In both cases, pair with a sweater or jacket that stops at the waist.
