Not many outside of the industry get the chance to be treated like Hollywood stars, but L'Oreal Paris is aiming to change that, one woman at a time. Meet Channa Lloyd; mother, beauty buff, fashion fanatic, and L'Oreal Paris Academy member.
ICYDK, the L'Oreal Paris Academy is an online curriculum where you enroll (for free!) and immerse yourself in video master courses taught by experts like Collier Strong and Johnny Lavoy on absolutely everything, from how to give yourself the perfect blowout and how to apply foundation flawlessly, to how to master the perfect picture pose and how to successfully work a room. After each brief class (most are under 5 minutes), take a quick quiz and you're instantly eligible to win a prize-filled sweepstakes! Channa's winnings? A 'Red Carpet Weekend'. Translation: A whirlwind trip to Beverly Hills where she was wined and dined and treated to a photo shoot, complete with an on-call glam squad that did her hair and makeup as well as dress her in designer duds. The biggest coup? Lloyd mingled with the stars at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards Luncheon, where Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, Viola Davis, and Jennifer Hudson were honored and gave incredibly inspirational speeches. (She was actually seated with L'Oreal spokesmodel Kerry Washington!)
When Channa wasn't being courted by the paparazzi or introducing herself to several guests whom she completely captivated, we grabbed a brief moment of her time to chat.
On her thoughts about the Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon: "It was powerful, moving, and thought-provoking. This event really showed the strength and character of Black women, and it reminds you that no matter what you're going through, you can always find what you're looking for and get through it. It was majorly motivating; these are women that I've looked up to since I was little, and it was very moving to hear their stories and how much they've been through. That to me is motivation to the nth power to do everything that I am going to do. I'm very excited!"
On the most important lesson she's learned from the L'Oreal Paris Academy: Whatever I am going to do, I'm going to do it big. That's what I've learned. make sure that you follow through with doing it big and thinking big. That's the important message behind it.
On what's next for her after she completes her courses: "I'm going to kick ass in law school, and I'm definitely going to pursue more commercial [modeling] work.
And of course we had a tête-à-tête about beauty.
As for her day-to-day look, Lloyd doesn't hesitate to share her beauty style that turns heads time after time: "Smoky eye, nude lip—I'm rocking it everywhere. It does wonders; people are always like 'Excuse me, Hi! How are you?' I'm always like—you saw the L'Oreal [makeup she's wearing]. I love it!"
Her go-to L'Oreal products are Double Extend Eye Illuminator Mascara, simply because she says 'It's major! It makes you look fabulous, no matter what.' She's also a bona fide fan of Colour Riche Lip Gloss in Soft Nude. "It's my favorite!" adds Lloyd. "I'm rocking those two all the time."
