Winner’s Circle: One Direction, Selena Gomez, ‘Glee’ Take Honors at Teen Choice Awards
Power to the people was ever present at this year's Teen Choice Awards where more than 150 million votes were tabulated to crown pop culture's current royals. Directional boy bands dominated the August 11 ceremony while Pretty Little Liars, Pitch Perfect stars, and Disney alum were deemed worthy of multiple surf board bounties. Lucy Hale and Darren Criss entertained their peers as the evening's emcees, but it was Criss’s co-star Lea Michele who really moved the crowd. The on-screen Rachel Berry won the Choice TV Actress — Comedy award for her role on the Fox smash, and in her first public appearance since beau Cory Monteith's death, honored his life with her win.
“For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love we're going to get through this together. He was very special to me and also to the world,” she shared during a tearful acceptance speech. She later added “we were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart, so whether you know him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and he became a part of all of our hearts.”
The Glee ensemble, which is currently filming season five, also took home the Choice TV Show — Comedy award, capping off four years of stellar ratings for Fox. They joined Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and Demi Lovato as the evening's big wins.
