Say what you will, but seasons don’t start until Starbucks releases their sugary lineup of themed beverages, whether it’s the PSL for fall or the peppermint mocha kicking off the holidays. As for spooky season? It starts today. The coffee chain just revealed a Witch's Brew Frappuccino, and it's just a bunch of hocus pocus.
The bright purple potion, which is almost as over-the-top as last year’s Zombie Frappuccino, is described as "the perfect blend of toad's breath, bat warts, and lizard scales." It starts with a base of milk, crème Frappuccino syrup, and orange-flavored purple powder, all of which is blended with ice. Green-colored chia seeds (aka bat warts) are then swirled throughout. To finish, the blended drink is topped with whipped cream and a dusting of green powder for the lizard scale effect.
Sounds sweet, right? That’s because it is. A Grande Witch's Brew Frappuccino is loaded with 53 grams of added sugar! Keep in mind that, according to the American Heart Association, no more than 37.5 grams of added sugar are recommended for men daily, and it's even less for women at 25 grams. It should also be noted that, unlike the brand’s other crème Frappuccinos, this option does not contain any coffee, and it will cost you 390 calories.
Whatever, it’s Halloween — treat yourself! But before you do, be sure to get a photo for the ‘gram. Bonus points if you're dressed as one of the Sanders sisters. "Starbucks loves to celebrate Halloween, and each year our Frappuccino brings something different to the season,” Jennica Robinson from Starbucks' beverage development team in a statement. "Witch’s Brew is very fun, vibrant, bubbly, the life of the party.”
The Frappe is currently available for a limited time at Starbucks locations in the US, Canada, Mexico, and select markets in the Caribbean.
