News broke yesterday that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged. During the official photocall at Kensington Palace, we got a glimpse of the happy couple and the royal engagement ring, but reporters and fans were told that the story of how the prince proposed would “come later.” As promised, in an exclusive live interview with BBC on Monday, the couple shared details of their engagement, which are surprisingly relatable.
While holding hands, the two recounted the momentous night: It was a quiet Sunday evening in November at the Kensington Palace, where the prince resides. It was “a standard, typical night for us,” Prince Harry said. Markle added that they were “trying to roast a chicken” for dinner. “It was so sweet and natural and very romantic,” she said. “He got on one knee.”
Markle said that she was so excited that she didn’t even let him finish talking, at which point Prince Harry chimes in with a cute imitation of his fiancé, “Can I say yes, can I say yes?!”
The Royal Family announced today that the wedding will take place at Windsor Castle in May 2018. More detail will be released “in due course,” but we expect it to be a big royal occasion.
