12 Reasons Your Skincare Routine Is No Longer Working For You
Skin Problem Causes
Some of your skin problems may be due to environmental factors such as a change in your environment, the water your drink and bathe in, or the air you breathe. Stress can also lead to breakouts, and underlying health conditions like diabetes, lupus, and more can impact your skin.
Skin Type
To figure out your skin issues, you must know your skin type; there are five skin types: normal, dry, oily, sensitive, and combination. You could be causing your skin problems if you don’t know what to use, such as over-exfoliating if you have dry skin which causes irritation.
Overwashing your face makes your skin very sensitive and strips it of its natural oils. How often you should wash your face depends on your skin type, but typically, the minimum is to wash it at least once a day, but work your way up to twice per day.
Signs of over-exfoliating include redness, peeling, and flaking, according to dermatologist Avnee Shah. Exfoliate at least twice a week, and chemical-based exfoliators will likely be more irritating than a physical exfoliant that contains hydrating oils like jojoba oil.
Sleeping With Makeup On
Sleeping with makeup on causes cell renewal and repair to be hindered, and non-comedogenic makeup can cause acne if worn overnight. Incorporate a proper cleansing routine at night to remove makeup, and keep a pack of makeup-remover wipes on your nightstand if you’re too exhausted to wash your face.
