All The Signs You May Have Sensitive Skin
By LILY RAINE
Redness & Itching
If you’re battling itchiness, redness, or burning, you may have sensitive skin. Various products may impact the nerve endings in the top layer of your skin which causes you to have these uncomfortable sensations.
Treating Acne
Popular acne-fighting ingredients like salicylic acid may be too harsh on sensitive skin, and when used, it may cause redness, burning, and itching. Instead, use a product that has very low percentages of salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide and slowly incorporate it into your routine.
Rashes & Hives
If you develop rashes and hives from certain products, you most likely have sensitive skin; this is known as irritant contact dermatitis, which may require treatment like steroid creams. Some rashes and hives can have dangerous effects, so it’s best to visit a dermatologist if you’re in this scenario.
Environmental Factors
In the wintertime, those with sensitive skin often develop extremely dry, cracked, and flaky skin, paving the way for severe rashes and sores. Dry air absorbs the moisture out of the skin, leaving it drier than usual, so use moisturizing products to help rebuild your skin barrier.
Very Dry Skin
Constant dryness is a common sign of sensitive skin. Overly dry skin is constantly flaking and provides little barrier to the nerve ending on the skin, and although there is no cure for sensitive skin, try to combat dryness by using products to restore the skin’s barrier.
