Cost Of Loving Is A Dating Trend With Which We Can All Commiserate
By AMANDA VINING
In the dating world, the “cost of loving” refers to the amount of money it costs to go on dates in a new or established relationship. One analysis put the average cost of dating at a whopping $35 an hour, which is why many people are veering away from costly dates and choosing to be more pragmatic about their meal and activity choices.
Inexpensive and free activities can be incredibly romantic, like having a picnic by the lake, or visiting the library to share your favorite books and learn more about your date’s favorite reads. Volunteering is another great way to get to know a potential partner's interests and values while helping with a local clothing drive or spending time with cute pups at an animal shelter.
Talking about finances can be awkward, but being smart about your money and not overspending are healthy habits that many people appreciate in their potential partners. Don't be afraid to be honest about what you're able and willing to spend on dates, and encourage the other person to be open about their own budget since in the end, honesty is the best policy.
