For Maximum Hair Volume, Avoid Layers. Here's Why
By KRYSTLE VERMES
For the longest time, many people associated layers with volume, body, and bounce, but layers have pros and cons. Hairstylist George Northwood says, “Excessive layering can take all of the volume out of the hair making it look quite flat and lifeless,” so instead, hair stylist Claude Baruk explains, “texturizing the ends will make hair look longer and fuller.”
To add even more volume to your hair, use shampoos and conditioners formulated to add volume to your overall look. Steer clear of hair products that weigh down your hair, like oil and silicone-based products, and hairstylist Nick Penna says, “Thin and fine hair that's very long can often end up looking stringy,” so opt for a medium-length haircut if this sounds like you.
A round brush is essential for voluminous hair, and it works wonders when paired with a hairdryer and some heat. Section your hair into several parts that are no more than 2 inches thick, then place your round brush at the end of your locks and roll it up towards your roots, blow dry them for 20 seconds, and then unwrap your hair.
