How Often Should You Be Washing Oily Hair?
By LESLIE LEON
Oily hair presents a unique problem when deciphering how often you should be washing your hair. Like everyone, you want to avoid overwashing while keeping it clean and presentable, so here’s how often you should be washing your hair without stripping it of its natural oils.
You should wash your hair two to three times a week, and consider using a sulfate-free shampoo so your hair isn’t stripped of its natural oils. Incorporate dry shampoo on the days your hair looks oily, and when washing your hair, focus on cleaning the scalp to help counter the overproduction of oil.
Oily hair picks up shine very easily, so use lightweight styling products as they will not weigh down your hair or make it look more oily. Only put conditioner on the ends of your hair, use a boar bristle brush to transfer your natural oils to your ends, and avoid touching your hair too often since your hands have natural oils.
