How To Connect With A Closed-Off Partner
BY ALANI VARGAS
A lot of times, an individual won’t open up to their partner because they don't feel safe due to past experiences where they were ignored or hurt when vulnerable. However, remaining closed off has a detrimental impact on the relationship, so it’s good to help your partner open up more.
One way to help your partner open up is by taking the lead and sharing intimate things about yourself first. This provides an example, creates even footing, and reduces pressure on your partner, which can go a long way toward helping them be vulnerable.
Even with trust and a safe environment, a closed-off partner might still need additional time, so patience is golden. You can also keep communication open by asking questions, clarifying points, being an active listener, and providing positive affirmations.
