How To Cure Melasma With These Additions To Your Diet
By JOSEE NG
Melasma is an acquired pigmentary condition that causes brown and gray patches on the skin, often caused due by exposure to UV radiation, hormonal influences during pregnancy, and family medical history. Melasma is harmless and usually goes away on its own, but it can cause people to lose self-confidence, so here are easy ways to treat melasma through your diet.
Hyperpigmentation has been linked to iron, anemia, and vitamin B12 deficiencies, so eat foods rich in iron and antioxidants like avocados, oranges, and broccoli; however, too much vitamin B12 can cause melasma, so refer to your dermatologist before making dietary changes. It’s important to consume nutritional foods, so proportion your food and drinks appropriately.
People with melasma should refrain from consuming milk and cheese that consist of synthetic hormones, and avoid sugar, salt, soy, and plain carbs, because they contribute to acne breakouts. Fried and spicy foods should be avoided along with alcohol, because this will dehydrate your skin.
