How To Properly Prep Your Skin For A Spray Tan For An Even Glow
By SHELBY GRUBER
Exfoliate Beforehand
Exfoliating your skin before a spray tan appointment creates a smooth and even surface for the tanning solution, ensuring a natural, long-lasting tan. Exfoliating scrubs such as St. Tropez Tan Enhancing Body Polish or Sugar Me Smooth Body Scrub are gentle and effective for spray tanning.
Avoid Moisturizing
Applying a moisturizer or cream to your skin forms a thin layer on your skin's surface, which will prevent the spray tan solution from being absorbed properly and result in a patchy or uneven tan. Not only that, but it can also leave behind residue on the skin, contributing to an unflattering tan.
Don’t Wear Makeup
Wearing makeup, especially foundation and concealer, can create a pesky barrier that will prevent the spray tan solution from being absorbed evenly into your skin. Make sure you use a gentle cleanser to remove any traces of makeup and ensure that your skin is free from any oils or dirt before tanning.
Shaving And Waxing
Try shaving or waxing at least 24 hours before your appointment as applying the spray tan too soon after hair removal can create dark spots or uneven patches on your skin. If you are forced to shave right before, try rinsing the area with cold water to close those open pores quicker for a smoother tan.
Manicure And Pedicure
One great way to complement your new tan is to get a manicure and pedicure. However, it is best to get your manicure and pedicure — or other spa treatments like facials and massages — done before spray tanning so you don’t disrupt your new tan with any chemicals or solutions used at the salon.
