The 2023 Trends That Prove K-Beauty Is Always A
Step Ahead
By BRIE SCHMIDT
Korean beauty — often shortened to “K-beauty” — has an enormous impact on the beauty world. In recent years, it has brought us the 10-step skincare routine, juicy sheet masks, and revolutionary ingredients like snail mucin and ginseng. So, here are the top 2023 K-beauty trends to try before they go global.
Baby-Smooth Skin
You can still get the matte baby skin look by leaving heavy makeup and excessively layering products behind. However, do try turning to a technique called "jamsu," which involves applying your base makeup, topping it with baby powder, then submerging your face in cold water for 30 seconds to create a poreless, matte effect.
Messy Brows And Lashes
A messier feathered brow look is coming in along with the rise of brow gels and mascaras, which should “keep the hairs separated and [looking] natural,” according to makeup artist Tobi Henney. K-beauty is also introducing undone, clumpy lashes, which are created by using mascara and tweezers to push the lashes together.
Light Brown Blush
The Korean version of a fake sun-kissed glow is a departure from the red blush seen last year, relying instead on milky brown and caramel shades to mimic a subtle tan. You can accomplish this look by choosing a brown blush that’s just a couple of shades darker than your natural skin tone and tapping it lightly on your cheeks.
Makeup Spatulas
While called a spatula, think of this as more of a butter knife that spreads foundation instead of jam. Apply a little foundation on the spatula, then glide it over your skin to create an even base without the tool leaving brush streaks or absorbing products like a sponge.
