The Secret To Breaking In A Slippery Yoga Mat
By NATALIE FRANCISCO
Yoga mats are an essential part of your yoga journey, as they provide you with extra traction and help avoid injuries. However, when you buy a new yoga mat, chances are that it’ll remain slippery until the top layer is eroded away over time; luckily, there’s a way you can speed up the process and use a perfect mat from the beginning.
You can mix a solution of distilled white vinegar and water, dilute mild detergents like dish soap, or even use shampoo as a degreaser to cut through that top slippery layer on your mat. Just spray the degreaser on your entire mat, use a damp sponge to scrub it, rinse all the soap suds off, and dry your mat away from direct sunlight.
Another efficient way to remove the top layer from your yoga mat is by scrubbing it with sea salt since it physically scrubs the problematic layer off. Evenly cover your mat with a handful of sea salt and use a wet cloth to gently scrub it into the top layer — works best on mats made out of plastic but not on jute or microfiber mats.
