BEAUTY
This Personality Trait Can Actually Make Your Face Appear More Attractive
By BRIE SCHMIDT
Beauty is not calculated by eye color, makeup, or facial symmetry. A 2023 study published in PLOS One examined personality traits to define an attractive face.
Researchers showed participants photographs to rate their personalities and then their attractiveness. Of the traits studied, honesty was most correlated with perceived beauty.
Another study published in 2006 in the Journal of Research in Personality concluded honesty was thought to be more good-looking since people appear more “kind” and “feminine.”
A 2008 study published in Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience determined that natural bone structure might impact how honest you seem to others.
Some scientific findings suggest if physical features and trustworthiness are correlated, you can manipulate your face to elicit trust from strangers and new friends.
Lifting the eyebrows and pulling back the lip muscles helps create a soft, happy expression, which is likelier to seem kind and honest to others than a heavy or sullen look.
