What To Do After You Pop That Stubborn Pimple
By MONICA GILL
Don’t worry if you caved and popped the pimple on your face, because we’ve all been there. Pimples communicate a lot about the health of your skin, hormones, and environment, so it’s important to do everything you can to prevent them, but if you’re past that point, here’s what to do right after you pop a pimple.
Once the pimple is popped, decrease the chance of infection by cleaning the skin to prevent the spread of bacteria. Clean the surrounding area with an antibacterial wash like benzoyl peroxide as this will prevent infection, reduce inflammation, and encourage healing; you can also use salicylic acid to encourage skin cell growth and prevent clogged pores.
Resist touching the pimple so it doesn’t get inflamed and use a pimple patch to speed up the healing process. Include a non-comedogenic moisturizer and sunscreen into your daily skincare routine, and consider using a chemical exfoliant once your skin has healed to reduce hyperpigmentation and increase cell turnover.
