Your Guide To Safely Changing Your Piercing Jewelry
By KRYSTLE VERMES
The location of the piercing and your body’s healing process indicates when you should change your jewelry; if you develop an infection, you’ll have to wait even longer to remove it. Once your piercing is fully healed, this is how to safely change it to new and unique jewelry.
Before replacing the piercing, you should determine its size so that your new jewelry fits seamlessly. Next, clean your old jewelry with piercing soap and pat it dry, then slip on nitrile gloves to properly remove it, and lastly, lubricate the new jewelry with soap and water before locking it in place.
If you’re nervous about changing your piercing, a piercing studio can help you. When doing it yourself, make sure your hands are washed before touching your new piercing, and when cleaning the piercing and surrounding skin, use a soap that’s free of dyes and fragrances.
