Mercury-smashing, scorching summer days set off against that crazy cold indoor air-con can make for the ultimate style buzzkill. But with a little prep, some investment, and insider tips, sailing through the next month of super sunny days in chic comfort can be a breeze. Balancing the latest trends with practical cuts, cool (quite literally) fabrics, and transitional styles, along with maintaining an effortless beauty routine, we recruited four fashion influencers to share their top tips and tricks for getting your warm-weather look on-point.

Jenn Lake of Style Charade, Chicago

Summer style secret

“First and foremost, I recommend investing in pieces that are made of lightweight, breathable, natural fabrics. When temperatures skyrocket, you want to be wearing items that are both cool and comfy. I also bring light layers with me everywhere since it tends to get cooler at night or indoors with air-con.”

Fave trends

“It’s the perfect time to play with prints and color pops. Testing new hues and patterns always pays off — wear them with confidence. That said, one of my favorite summer trends this season is white accessories, especially white shoes and handbags. There’s something so fresh and chic about them; they really make your skin tone pop, and they instantly match any outfit. I’m also excited to see that the ‘white hot’ accessories trend is expected to carry into Fall, so it’s a good investment.”

Seasonal staples

“My summer must-haves include Caroline Constas’ Lyssa striped cotton-blend dress. I even bought it in two colors. And then a striped maxi by Eliza J — I’ve never received more compliments on a dress. A classic pair of sandals, such as Hermes Oran, are a great investment, while a Cult Gaia bag always makes a great statement.”

Beauty Must-Haves

“As someone who’s always traveling and working long hours, I need beauty products that’ll go the distance. My fave new beauty product is Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask, a hydrating mask that I put on my face before bed. Since I struggle with dry skin, I also adore BeautyCounter Baby Daily Protective Balm. It’s the best lotion I’ve ever used! Lastly, I always layer on SPF before leaving my home in the morning and tend to opt for Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen. I don’t like to go overboard with product during the hot months, as it can make my skin feel too loaded.”

Charlotte Groeneveld of The Fashion Guitar, NYC

Summer style secret

“It gets so hot in New York City in the summer, so I try to wear light fabrics and loose silhouettes — nothing too tight on the skin. I also prefer off-the-shoulder tops and dresses, so I don’t get weird tan lines when I’m outside. Another go-to would be a cute mini-dress, cotton with little flowers, or denim with sneakers. Or, just a simple white linen dress.”

Fave trends

“Trends-wise I’m loving floral tops with puffy sleeves and anything pastel-toned. It’s just such an easy trend to work and integrate into your daily look. Petersyn, Brock Collection, and Kitri Studios are all great for this style.”

Seasonal staples

“Overall, I try to invest in my staples, so a little less “fast fashion” and more well-made pieces. H&M Trend is amazing and good quality, so I try to get stuff there every season. Same for their basics — they’re always good!”

Beauty must-haves

“I try to keep my summer beauty light, so for me it’s all about good skin care. My go-tos are 111SKIN eye and day cream and a little Dior Backstage Foundation to even things out while still keeping it super light. For color, I’ll add a little Chanel golden brown eye shadow and eyebrow pencil, Maybelline mascara, and NARS bronzer and blush. That’s really it. Oh, and at night, I swear by a good soak in GOOP bath salts — they’re amazing!”

Vic Ceridono of Dia de Beauté, London

Summer style secret

“Generally, I like to take it really easy in summer. For inspiration, it always helps to look to some of my favorite summer destination cities like Lisbon or Rio and imagine how I’d dress there. It’s always a bit more low-key, relaxed, and easy.”

Fave trends

“My favorite summer trend this season is linen, everything linen. It’s such a cool summer fabric, there’s a lot of it around this year, and it comes in some super chic silhouettes and pieces. I love an easy linen dress with sneakers.”

Seasonal staples

“My summer staples have to be denim shorts, a tan leather belt, vintage shirts — menswear is good for this as it gives a much looser fit — vintage summer dresses, slides, and basket bags. Brazilian brands do the best swimwear. My favorites are Adriana Degreas, Clube Bossa, Jo de Mer, Triya and Lenny. They also do amazing resort wear for post-beach moments. I discovered Dodo Bar Or three years ago, which is one of my absolute favorites for summer dresses.”

Beauty must-haves

“As a beauty editor and with fair skin, sunscreen for me is an absolute must. I am very conscious of the sun. I never leave the house without applying sunscreen allover. For a summer tan, I love bronzing products that help to fake it. On my face, I like to do a mix of liquid bronzers, bronzing primers, and lots of highlighting products. By Terry has a really good bronzing CC Cream, Nars Liquid Laguna is great, and Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Liquid Highlighter is one of my faves. Then, I do whatever bronze-y shade I used on the face for my eyes as well to get that all-over look.

“Also, I always use body makeup to warm up the skin a bit more or just add sheen to it. A quick tip: If you don’t have a specific body product, you can just get a liquid bronzer and a liquid highlighter and mix them with your regular body lotion for glowing skin.”

Dasha Guyton of Windy City Wardrobe, Chicago

Summer style secret

“One of my biggest fashion tips for this time of year is to buy your shoes a half size larger than you normally would, as our feet swell during the warmer months. Also, breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen, supima, and super-thin denim will keep you comfy and cute for fun in the sun.”

Fave trends

“This summer, the trends I’m completely obsessed with are tropical prints and smock dresses. Both options allow you the versatility to go glam with heels and statement jewelry or minimal and casual with flats.”

Seasonal staples

“If you’re not into following trends, easy summer staples include capris, a denim jacket for those sleeveless looks, harem pants, maxi dresses, and a swimsuit cover up.”

Beauty must-haves

“For beauty, in general, I’m one of those people who sticks to their tried-and-true makeup routine, but I do love playing around with summer lip trends. This season, I’ve really been into bright orange and hot pink lipsticks. My absolute favorite right now is the two-tone lip trend, because it just gives off this vibrant, happy vibe that makes it a great conversation starter for an introvert like me.”
