We’ve all experienced a workout that we felt was insanely difficult, but Amy Schumer’s trainer apparently took things to the next level — and she retaliated. During the season finale of her 3 Girls, 1 Keith podcast that aired this week, the comedian spoke with her trainer AJ Fisher (along celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak) about all things fitness. In a hilarious moment, she revealed that she once sent Fisher a cease and desist letter claiming she had endured “extreme and unduly” workouts.
The whole thing was a joke, of course, but you might not know it from the letter, which Schumer later shared on her Instagram. “On @3girls1keith this week I mentioned that as a joke I had my lawyer and who I love, draft a cease and desist to my trainer @ajcorectology because i thought the workouts were so hard,” the 38-year-old wrote in a caption, alongside an image of the letter. “I jokingly threatened to do it during our workouts for months.”
“We are the attorneys for Amy Schumer, an internationally known actress, comedian and high-profile public figure,” the letter reads. “It has come to our attention that while Ms. Schumer has engaged you to perform simple physical training for her, you have instead forced Ms. Schumer to perform extreme and unduly punishing physical exercises well outside the bounds of normal physical training.”
Thankfully, Fisher has a great sense of humor when it comes to Schumer’s antics. “Amy told me after several of our sessions, ‘You will be hearing from my lawyer,'” she said on Tuesday’s podcast episode. “Like, without even saying bye. And then, when I finally heard from her lawyer, I opened the letter and I actually got goosebumps. I had a moment of, ‘Was she serious? Is my career totally over?'”
Honestly, who hasn’t wanted to get back at their trainer after a particularly killer workout? But jokes and fake legal action aside, things are all good between Schumer and her trainer. “AJ is an amazing trainer and is the reason I feel strong and good and have recovered from my herniated discs and c-section,” Schumer wrote on Instagram. “Was this is a wasteful use of resources? Very very much so but it brought me so much joy.”
Schumer and husband Chris Fischer welcomed their son Gene on May 5 after the comedian experienced hyperemesis for her entire pregnancy. Building her strength back up was surely no small feat, but it certainly seems like she’s back to her old self.
Since becoming a mom, she’s kept it very real on social, sporting mesh underwear and her breast pump in photos, revealing her 10-lb weight loss while assuring followers she loves her post-pregnancy body, and, of course, clapping back at haters.
“Women are f*cking warriors and capable of anything,” she wrote on Instagram.
